Traditional linear TV still brings in millions of viewers weekly, while connected TV (CTV) is growing fast. In this new mix, broadcasters are blending big live events and fresh shows. The aim: satisfy both people who love watching live and those who prefer on\u2011demand. For advertisers, this means getting both wide reach and precise targeting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this article, we\u2019ll look at the new shows and returns that will shape Fall 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Linear TV and CTV: Working Together<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2025, people will watch TV in two main ways.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"754\" data-end=\"823\"><b>Linear TV<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the old way \u2014 shows broadcast live on a set schedule via cable, satellite, or antenna. It\u2019s ideal for big events: sports, news, galas, and prime\u2011time shows. These create collective viewing moments, like <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bye Bye<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La Fureur<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, NHL games, or the ADISQ Gala.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16473 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/espace-m.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/481192927_1178105910328180_2391246829648533747_n-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"la fureur\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/espace-m.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/481192927_1178105910328180_2391246829648533747_n-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/espace-m.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/481192927_1178105910328180_2391246829648533747_n-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/espace-m.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/481192927_1178105910328180_2391246829648533747_n-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/espace-m.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/481192927_1178105910328180_2391246829648533747_n.jpg 1440w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1164\" data-end=\"1299\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La Fureur<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a good example: it brings people together and can\u2019t be streamed because of broadcast rights.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1301\" data-end=\"1766\"><b>Connected TV (CTV)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> means a TV connected to the internet \u2014 through smart TVs, Roku, Apple TV, etc. It offers streaming, so viewers can watch when they want. It combines the big screen with digital features: tight targeting, performance tracking, flexible viewing. CTV is especially popular with young adults (25\u201349) and \u201ccord\u2011cutters\u201d who no longer use traditional TV. That lets advertisers reach audiences they might miss on linear TV.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1768\" data-end=\"1809\"><b>A Video Ecosystem Pulling Together<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ThinkTV \u2013 TV Basics Fall 2024<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 83% of adults watch traditional TV weekly \u2014 including 71% of people aged 18\u201334. On average, Canadians spend 17.3 hours per week watching it. The idea of \u201cTotal TV\u201d (linear + broadcasters\u2019 digital platforms) reaches up to 93% of adults monthly. Television still commands about 70% of total screen time, far ahead of YouTube (14%) and Netflix (5%).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CTV is smaller in usage but growing fast, thanks to more smart TVs and rising on\u2011demand content. Advertisers no longer have to choose between linear and CTV. They should use both to get broad coverage, manage frequency, and measure impact accurately.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2534\" data-end=\"2574\"><b>Fall 2025: TV Adapts Gently<\/b><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2576\" data-end=\"2996\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With time, audiences are moving toward digital platforms, which better fit today\u2019s habits. But traditional TV is still betting on strong, high\u2011quality content. As linear and digital platforms merge, broadcasters can keep loyal viewers while testing new ideas in flexible spaces.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2998\" data-end=\"3059\"><b>French\u2011Language Fall Highlights<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New shows and returning hits will define the francophone lineup:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Radio\u2011Canada<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> launches <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Antigang<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a fast\u2011paced daily set in special police operations, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L\u2019Ind\u00e9tectable<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a sharp psychological thriller.
